Here's a picture of me hanging out in front of the Red Fort's Diwan-i-Am, which simply means the Hall of Public Audiences. Mughal emperors would use the Diwan-i-Am as an open court for settling disputes and rendering justice. Theoretically, any citizen of the empire could come and call on the emperor here, but because his time was undoubtedly precious and limited, a little baksheesh to grease the palms of the ministers of the court probably expedited the process.
