We spent our last days of the trip in Tamil Nadu, the southernmost state in India. Because Tamil Nadu is so far south (about the same parallel as Caracas, Venezuela), its weather patterns are much different than the patterns of the north. Result: while it was dry everywhere else, here the monsoon was just reaching its peak. This picture of me was taken in Mamallapuram, inside a stone cave that was carved into a temple around the 7th century. The rain had been coming down all day and I was soaking wet, so the temple provided a much needed respite from the rain.
