The Children of Laos: Jar Maker's Village

The Children of Laos:
The Jar Maker's Village
s
About 20 kilometers upriver from Luang Prabang we visited Ban Xiang Hai, the Jar Maker's Village. Traditionally this community made ceramic jars used for storing Lao-Lao, the local moonshine. Nowadays, the village is a haven for souvenir shoppers.

Above Picture: Andy managed to get this picture of a Lao girl getting ready for a swim in the Mekong.

s Inside the village, a group of kids were playing some kind of game that involved drawing a rectangular playing field in the sand. This boy was in charge of guarding the stick.

It was 90 degrees that day, so the village children took advantage of the Mekong as often as they could. These two boys just finished a swim of their own. s

s Two girls welcoming us as we entered the village. This photo also appears on the Children of Laos homepage.

While the rest of the village children spent their time swimming and frolicking around, these two girls were content spending the afternoon reading a small book. s
